Vintage Chinese Carved Cinnabar Necklace.

Red light wood beads carved with Chinese flower head and scroll design, and strung on red cord, with a knot between each bead. Beads are each 1.6 cm diameter. Total length of necklace is  80.5 cm. Cinnabar lacquer is made from the sap of a tree (and to quote:) "which is processed and pigmented with ground cinnabar, a red mercury sulphide pigment of which vermilion is the human-made equivalent. The pigmented lacquer is applied layer upon layer over a wooden or metal core".  A light wooden core in this case. This necklace is a brighter red colour than our other cinnabar necklace (for sale in this category) It has a brass slide clasp with filigree flower. Excellent condition. Mid 20th century plus.
