Beautiful cabinet plate, measuring 31 cm diameter (12.1/4 inches) diameter. It has handmade hanging wires for use as a wall plate, made before you could buy these over the counter. Plate pattern is "Indian Star" - and the earthenware cream background has handpainted decoration of Indian Red flowers and garlands, with a central medallion - all with heavy gilding to the flowers and bud bases. The rim of the plate is also gilded. It is English, Staffordshire, made in the year 1876 (there is a registration mark on the rear). There is no maker's name, but a number of potteries used the banner name style for their patterns. The plate is in very good condition all round. Heavy.
