Victorian Antique Lorgnette, with Retriever.

Compact pair of folding spectacles, late 1800s, with later addition of a retriever. This latter item is a brooch with spring loaded chain - you can the pin the retriever to your clothing, and carry the lorgnette around on it, using the pull-out mechanism when you want to examine something.  The handle is gold-plated, but the front cover of the retriever mechanism tests as 10K gold. The rear appears to be brass, and has a stamp which reads Ketchum & McDougall, New York. Patent Feb. 24th, 1903. Very good condition.
