Silver Rimmed Tea Caddy made from Nut.
Interesting small tea caddy made from a very large nut casing. The front is incised and filled with enamels "Te Mate" with a picture of a teapot, cup and sugar done in similar manner. Mexican? South American? Certainly Spanish. The rim of the top opening is silver, stamped "Gato" and 600 (the silver content). Whole measures 87 mm diameter and 51 mm thick. Presumably it once had a cork or similar for the opening. Maybe a gaucho's tea caddy? Very early 20th century.
