Silver Plate Bread or Cake Basket, Victorian.

Late 19th century Victorian cake or bread basket. Made in silver plate, it has a swing handle, rectangular pedestal foot, embossed swag and medallion decoration and an engraved panel to the centre. It measures 26.5 cm by 21.5 cm and 21 cm high with the handle up. No maker's marks. just a beaver stamp. Many English silversmiths used a beaver mark including Tiffany's and a Canadian company (although usually with their initials at least, this is a well defined realistic beaver). The basket is in excellent condition.
