Pair of Victorian Salt Cellars with Lion Masks.
Very handsome pair of open salts, silver plated, with shaped beaded rims, lion mask decoration and paw feet. Flowers and acanthus scrolls decorate the sides. The maker’s mark is for Richard Martin, Ebenezer Hall & Co of Sheffield (better known as Martin Hall & Co), circa 1854 plus. Large size salts, measuring 8.25 cm diameter and standing 5 cm high.
Some salts marks to the interiors, and wear to the plating internally in one, but externally and generally in very nice condition. Gothic initials engraved on side, looks like J. C or J. G. or could be F.G. or even T.g. I can never decipher gothic script.
