Very appealing pair of vintage French children's busts, mounted on heavy quartz bases. Made in some form of plaster, with a terracotta coloured finish over.  They are after Jean-Antoine Houdon.  The rear of the boy has the impressed handwritten mark "Alexandre E Pongnard" and "Par Houdon" with a seal-type small circle which contains some numerals and initials.(possibly a date 1950?) The rear of the girl has a handwritten mark, in handwriting form  which looks like "Embel d'apr Houdon". French, words are not complete, but basically probably says "made after Houdon".  Each bust is approx. 29 cm tall including the bases, which are obviously a later addition. The base makes these extremely heavy., making postage expensive.  Condition is very good - just some minor rubs to the rear of the boy's head. (see images). Could easily be touched up.
