Mauchlineware Egg-Shaped Sewing Etui.

Good item of Mauchline ware - an etui for holding a thimble, thread and small needles inside the egg. Exterior shows two ladies with their gentlemen in a country area with trees and large stones. The caption at the bottom reads “The Popping Stone, Gilsland”.  These stones are a natural feature on the banks of the river Irthing, in the Irthing Gorge near the village of Gilsland. To quote “Gilsland is a village located on the border of Northumberland and Cumbria in Northern England. Situated along Hadrian's Wall, it lies roughly halfway between Carlisle and Hexham”.  The egg measures 5.3 cm high by 3.2 cm diameter and is in very good condition.
