Modern Maori bone carving, carved in polished beef bone. It represents a manaia, a mythical spirit embodying (in this case) a bird and a fish. Protector over Earth, Sea and Sky. Fish hook motif also there. Measures 12.2 cm long by 2.6 cm wide. Slightly curved bone. Very good condition.
