Leather-Bound Histoire de la Réfugiés Protestants.
Beautifully bound book, prize for 1st Class French at the Whitchurch Free Grammar School in 1858, awarded to James Bromfield. Front cover bears the gold-stamped crest of the school, founded AD 1550. "Histoire de la Réfugiés Protestants de France". Volumes I and II bound together. By M. Ch. Weiss. 455 pages in all. Paris edition, Charpentier, Libraire-Éditeur. Published 1853. Internally it has some yellow staining to pages in the earlier section - mildew or similar? I don't think this book was ever read by Master Bromfield - it's in very crisp condition inside. The cover has slight knocks to edges of spine and corners. Book measures 8.25 cm by 12 cm and 4.7 cm thick.
