Kiwiana Quaint Painted Wooden Pot.
Turned wooden pot with lid and finial - painted and poker work around design of poppies and daffodils to the sides, with striated effect to the wood between them Also, carved out strap-like leaf curves around the sides. Good size, bigger than it looks - it is 20 cm (8 inches) high from base to top of lid finial. Diameter is 11.10 cm. It would date from the 1930s when poker-work and painting of this sort was a hobby. Lathe mark underneath has been enlarged and shows signs of glue - so pot was probably originally attached to a post or table, and may have been made to be a tobacco jar. Very good condition for the age. A little bit of New Zealand Kiwiana.
