Encyclopedia of Needlework, Small Size,

Originally printed in 1886, this comprehensive hardcover work by Therese de Dillmont was first published in French. This Encylopedia of Needlework has a front plate with the message written in pen and ink “To Donna with Birthday Greetings, from F & V James, 4/2/1930”.
It covers all subjects such as plain sewing, embroidery, knitting, tapestry, mending, crochet, tatting, macramé, netting, embroidered laces, lots of other laces - all complete with diagrams and illustrations, and some colour plates. Instructions for how to reproduce patterns and modify their dimensions and proportions. Little book, measures 103 mm wide, by 142 mm, and 42 mm thick. Very good condition internally (I don’t think the recipient of this gift, Donna, really read it much…) - externally it has some wear to the edges of the spine binding. Although this work is available in relatively cheap modern paperback versions, the original little hardcover editions such as this, nearly 100 years old, are very collectible, and increasingly expensive and rare.
