Baxter Print, The Six Malagasy Christians.
Victorian Baxter print (by George Baxter) titled “The Six Malagasy Christians (now in England) waiting at Tamatave to embark for Mauritius”. The date of this print is 1840 - the event it illustrates occurred in 1849.Printed in oil colours by G.Baxter, (patented) 3 Charterhouse Square.
This was an illustration in the “Narrative of Persecution of the Christians in Madagascar”, and depicts the Christians waiting for the boat which will take them to safety.
Baxter’s work is very detailed always, and very finely printed. The print area showing in the mount is 9.4 cm high by 14.5 cm wide. The actual framed print under glass is 19.cm by 24.5 cm wide. The matt shows age yellowing, but the print itself appears to be in very good condition. A great addition for any Baxter print collector.
