"Gorgeous Edwardian Period paste pendant set into .800 silver. To quote AI: ""Paste diamonds are high-lead glass imitations of real diamonds, popular in Georgian/Victorian jewellery, made by creating a paste of glass components, pouring it into moulds, cutting, and polishing it, often with a foil backing, to mimic the sparkle of diamonds at a fraction of the cost."" Paste jewellery was not considered as cheap fakes - it was prized for its artistry and brilliance. The 800 grade silver is generally a German grade, although other nations sometimes also used it. This item measures 4.5 cm (including the bale) by 3 cm wide. The central stone is a beautiful aqua colour. Very intricate work. The chain is not original to the pendant - it is .925 silver, but is a little fine for the piece - substituting a more weighty chain would be a good move. (Unfortunately, I don't have any at the current time). Current chain is 40.5 cm long. Very good condition.
