Antique Leather Folder, Maker Court Supplier.
Antique German (Prussian) bottle-green leather folder with carrying handles. Unfolds to reveal strips and pockets. It could be a writing case with room for a writing pad, envelopes and stamps. Maybe an early version of a brief case. It has the manufacturer’s name stamped in gold: “Geo.D. Knipp KGL.Hoflieferant. Stuttgart”. Knipp was a royal purveyor to King Wilhelm II and the Court at Stuttgart. Wilhelm II who reigned 1861-1848, was the last German Emperor and King of Prussia. This folder would date from the 1800s. It has a few marks on the leather, and the green moire silk interior lining is torn and extremely fragile. Interesting piece from a time long gone. Measures 23 cm by 16.5 cm not including the handles.
