Victorian mid to later 1800s sewing implement - a tape measure in a case made from carved and turned coquilla nut. It has a turned bone spindle at the top, which you use to rewind the tape. The case is in excellent condition. Item measures 5 cm high and 2.9 cm diameter. The tape itself has lost the end cap, and has a little tear about an inch into the tape, which makes it a bit difficult to rewind if the tape is pulled out. Tape is understandably very fragile, being very fine gros-grain silk like fabric. This is a nice example of the beautifully-worked sewing items used in the 18th and 19th centuries. Very collectable.
