Very dainty Victorian gold double brooches - each has a swallow mounted with seven tiny seed pearls. The birds are 9ct gold, and are mounted onto small safety pin style clasps. They are joined by a fine chain. Each brooch measures 2.5 cm long. Excellent condition. This item would date from the mid to late 1800s - swallows were a popular Victorian motif, meaning steadfastness to one’s partner and family (swallows mate for life). They also serve as a symbol of love and protection.
