Pretty jar. I’m not sure what it was used for - maybe lump sugar? Very large for this though. Measures about 9 cm high and 13.5 cm diameter at the handles. English made, it has a pattern number underneath, but no maker’s name - it would have been part of a dinner service. Lots of gilding -all intact - and pretty design of small roses. There are faults: a very small chip on the internal rim (not see from the outside). There is a little discolouration, pale yellow, on the body (this blends in well, not really noticeable), and one handle has been glued. All these are shown in the images here. Nonetheless, a very pretty item, very decorative. Looks to be dating from possibly late 1800s to early half of 20th century. This is another of our clear-out items - things that are slightly damaged but priced to clear.
