Tea For Two, Silverplated 4 Piece Set.

  • NZ$13800

English silver plate tea service for two. Consists of a teapot, sugar, lidded creamer and waiter tray.  The sugar bowl is two-handled, and made in a size suitable for lump sugar. Maker's mark is indistinct - looks like M & B. S. - Could be Mappin Brothers, or Martin Hall, can't find anything closer.  The tray is not an exact match for the other items, but fits them well and is in excellent condition. It is made by Martin Hall & Co., and stands on three curled feet, with a gadrooned edge to the top and fret-work border. Measures 26 cm diameter. The sugar has a gilded interior, and measures 17 cm long by 8 cm wide by 8.5 cm high. Little milk jug  is lidded, 12 m long by 6 cm wide and 10 cm high. It also has the gilded interior. Teapot is 21 cm long by 9.5 cm wide and 12 cm high. Sugar: excellent condition. Creamer: slight roughness to edge of finial, otherwise excellent. Teapot: has been used the most. Some loss of coverage to the handle top, a little bubbling to the finial, and plate wear to the roundels pattern and side, mostly on one side only.  Attractive set, and very useful. Late 1800s to early 1900s.  Tray probably early 20th century.
