Small Lidded Silver Trinket Box, Chester, 1910.

  • NZ$19800

Antique small ring or trinket box. Sterling silver, hallmarked for Chester, 1910 - at the very end of the Edwardian era. Blue velvet lid, which lifts to open. Could have been used as a pin cushion. Item stands on three cabriole legs, and is serpentine shaped. The little narrow silver band around the velvet pad has suffered a few tiny dings along the way, and if not opened and shut with care, the pads pops out of this surround - but easy to put back in place. Just massage the sides back into the shaped silver. Don't press from the top, as the pad will just fall through. Sounds drastic, but really it is not.  Maker's mark is rubbed, but it is for E.J Trevitt & Sons, of Birmingham, who often assayed in Chester. This is a light little piece, measuring 4.5 cm high by 6 cm wide and 5 cm front to back. Pretty little item for the dressing table or bedside table - more of an ornament than a box. TSW: 19.8g without the pad.
