Porcelain Figurine, 18th Century?, Candleholder.

  • NZ$3500

Early figurine of a youth in court clothes - he holds a flower in one hand, and drapes his other arm around foliage holding a large candle sconce. The background is foliage with flowers in the bocage style. Measures 17.5 cm high. There is considerable chipping to the foliage, and his neck and left hand appears to have been restored. (Room for improvement here). The candle holder needs to be set properly in its space, as it has only a piece of metal (at the bottom of the sconce) fitting loosely into the holder on the foliage, and is rather insecure. On the plus side, he has a delightful little dog at his side, and is possibly early English porcelain in the Derby manner.  Interesting piece.
