Sterling Silver Antique Match Case.

  • NZ$16900

This is not for safety matches. English silver vesta case , hallmarked for Chester 1903 (Edwardian Period). This case is perfect for hanging on a  neck chain. It measures 40.19 mm (including the bale) by 25.33 mm. It is 9.14 mm thick. The silver is engraved with an all-over leaf pattern, with an initial panel (circular) at the front. Panel is blank. under the base of the case is the striker. Vesta were wax matches, used widely before safety matches were invented. You struck the wax Vesta match on the striker.  The front of the case is in very good condition, the rear has a black mark - which may clean off. The sprung catch to the lid works well, and overall this is very good, sound Vesta case.  Sterling silver. TW: 13.1g.
