Brass Vesta (or match safe in the USA) with blue and gold enamel royal cipher to the front - issued as a souvenir of King Edward’s coronation in 1902. The case is brass, with the striker on one side. Lid flips to reveal the vesta compartment. Lid spring is in very good condition. (Vestas were wax matches - they could be struck on one’s shoe to ignite them, or on any rough surface. They were prone to rubbing together and catching fire, so hence the cases were nearly always metal. Now replaced with safety matches). I have left this in its original condition, but it could polished to a nice brass finish. Measures 4.4 cm high by 3.25 cm wide, and about 1.4 cm thick.
