Victorian Gold, Pearl and Enamel Locket.

  • NZ$13800

Small pendant locket, mid to later 1800s, probably was designed to be a mourning locket. It has design of chain-linked centre on the outer panels, with blue enamel-edged quarters. In the centre is a small round compartment with a cone cap of a hammered design edged with a blue enamel band, with a tiny seed pearl sitting on the apex.  Really a very pretty, unusual little pendant. There are one or two very small losses to the enamel, and the rear of the pendant shows the compartment has tiny splits around the edge and a minor mend. (You could still put a little token in here though). Also a very old mend to the rear of a front outer panel. Not obvious to the naked eye, best seen under a jeweller’s loupe. Item measures 2 cm diameter plus the solid bale and jump ring. No hallmarks, tests as 18ct, but could be gilded pinchbeck  TW: 2.6g
