Stunning Large Opal and Gold Pendant on 18ct Chain.

The opal pendant is kite-shaped, cabochon cut, approx. 49.7 x 36.7 x 12.00 mm, estimated at 100 carats. It is white with a good display of blue, green, yellow and orange. It has large areas of potch (these are areas which do not display colour) and apparently it has a lot of surface crazing and some minor faults at the rear. These descriptions are taken from the Valuation accompanying this item. However, I am looking at it with the naked eye and a loupe, not under a high-magnification instrument, and none of this is apparent to normal viewing. It has a polished, smooth surface. It is claw-set on a scalloped edge mount of 9ct yellow gold, stamped. It is very hard to photograph, as the flashes of colour don’t show under lights on the long shots. 
Pendant is suspended on an 18ct yellow gold rope-twist chain, 50 cm long and 2.00 mm wide. It is in very good condition, and is a beautiful looking chain. It weighs 7.88 grams. The total weight of the item is 33.10g.  
The valuation (done in 2016) gives a recommended replacement cover of $5900.00, and a recommended Indemnity Cover of $2900.00. (Indemnity cover is the lowest cover, aiming at a  compensation settlement for loss, not replacement).  Remember that the price of gold has soared since 2016.
This is a large, beautiful item -  very rare at this size.
