Carmen Patented Sweetheart bracelet, with expansion strap and opening locket. Made in the USA. Gold plated (or gold filled as the Americans term it) - Carmen first patented these bracelets in the early 1900s, and they were manufactured right through the First and Second World Wars, where they were very popular as keepsakes for the sweethearts of fighting men. This one has the ornate patterned expansion strap and a central locket with a crescent moon and a star. The crescent is mounted with crystals, and the star has a green gemstone which tests as an emerald, but I'm not sure this is correct. The locket opens to reveal space for a photo or a small keepsake. (It is rather hard to open, but not impossible). The rear has engraved initials of "M.D." in flowing script. All round good condition - some scuffs to the face, could be polished off. Expanding band link sometimes pops off its pin, but can be popped back into place. Locket measures 2.4 cm diameter. Band is 1.5 cm wide. Very quaint. These types of bracelets can be seen on Etsy etc for very high prices, so have kept this one low.
