Rare open salts, or could also be Vesta match holders. - they date from the Regency period of George III, when his son George IV ruled as Regent in his father's place. (1811 to 1820). Hobnail-cut sides, and a detailed striated rim (ideal for the striking of wax matches). Stepped lower of the item, with a multi star base. They each measure 5 cm high by 7.1 cm diameter. Good solid weight. Condition is very good for the age - one has three tiny chips to the base rim, and there is a little absolutely minute wear to the hobnail cuts. Lovely items, so nice to see them still together as a pair after all these years.
