Ornate Close Plate Candle Snuffers.

Antique ornate candle snuffers, made in Close Plate, around the turn of the 18th century to the 19th century. Close Plate was thin silver applied over metal, usually iron. These sniffers stand on three feet, and have designs of acanthus scrolls, flowers and shell-shaped motifs. They measure 18.5 cm long. The spring for the snuffer action is good and strong. There is a small amount of rust inside the snuffers (moisture gets under the plate and causes rust). Nothing bad though. There is some lifting of the plate (see image of rear and of snuffer gate). Overall, a nice set of a disappearing type of antique.
