Made by Joseph Crossard , these two antique spoons have matching handles - silver with initial panels (blank) surrounded by flowering vines, and ending in a ribbon bow. One is a sifter spoon with a lobed bowl and acanthus base, and the other a gilded silver serving spoon with foliage engraved to the bowl. The silvermark of Joseph Crossard is clearly stamped on the face of the serving spoon. They have other marks on the finial base of the spoons, but being tiny, I can't decipher these. Crossard worked from 1900-1920, and is considered a superior silversmith. There are no decipherable marks on the sifter, but both spoons have the same handle. Length of sifter spoon is 19 cm with a bowl 6.2 cm wide. Sifters can be used for sprinkling sugar, or icing sugar over desserts or cakes, or ginger over melons. The serving spoon is 21 cm long and has bowl 7.3 cm wide. Very attractive duo.
