Sterling silver compact, hallmarked Birmingham, England, 1954. Maker’s mark is A & Co Ltd, for the prestigious company of Asprey & Co of New Bond Street, London. Engine-turned stipple pattern engraving to all case. Rose gold vermeil band around lid. Square, 7.1 cm by 7.1 cm and 1 cm thick. Hinged internal lid, mirror and powder section with gauze filter. The interior of the case (except the internal hinged lid) is gilded over silver. There is a mark on the inside of the internal lid caused by a long-gone powder puff decaying (probably had foam in it), which can cause staining. Overall very good condition, only  fault being the mark of the puff. Item weighs 153.79 grams.  (The black marks on the edges in the main image are just reflections from the roof).
