Pounamu Jade Bar Brooch, Antique.
New Zealand greenstone (jade) brooch or pin dating from circa 1900-1910. Pounamu is the Maori word for South Island New Zealand jade, commonly called greenstone. Bevelled, with a flat back, it has 9ct gold caps at either end, engraved with stylised leaf and bars. The caps have been glued back in position (originally, they are just clamped, but often slide around hence the glue - older repair). This brooch dates from the Edwardian era at the beginning of the 1900s, and was a very popular form of locally made jewellery - now it is very collectable. Item measures 5.5 cm by just under 1 cm. Very good condition.
