Bronze Shinto Shrine Mirror, 19th Century Japanese.
19th century Japanese bronze shrine mirror - these mirrors stand on the altar of a shrine as a representative of the kami. The bronze rear would be polished as a reflective surface. It has a strong cultural significance as an interface between the spirit and the physical and spiritual realms of existence. Our mirror has a turtle in the centre of the disc, with two cranes and chrysanthemums. It measures 10.75 cm diameter, and the rim is 0.5 cm high. Very good condition.
