Antique Fish Servers.

  • NZ$8200

Flatware: Boxed pair of Victorian serving fish knife and fork - silver plate with ivory handles. Lovely engraved design of acanthus scrolls and a sailing dinghy on the blade of the knife, and scrolls on the fork. The handles are ivory, carved in a twist pattern - the Schreger lines are quite visible. The box bears a Queen Street, Auckland (New Zealand) retailer’s label of Heinrich Kohn. The blade bears a maker’s mark of L & W and anchor, for George Shadford Lee & Henry Wigfull of Sheffield, England - dated to 1871-1898.
Knife measures 28 cm long, fork is 21 cm long. The plating on both is very good - there is a tight split in the ivory (this is quite common with ivory), but the handle is secure and firm.  Otherwise lovely condition. The box has seen better days, with the silk lining rotting away in places; underneath the box shows damage to the covering.
