Not sure what the wood is - could be walnut, but this little box was bought in Japan in the late 1940s, so could be a local wood. Beautifully made, with a slightly rounded edge to the top. Lined sides to the interior. One small splinter missing from a corner of the lid, otherwise excellent condition.
