Vintage Biscuit Tin Clock, Chinoiserie Decoration.

  • NZ$16800

Rare early biscuit (cookie of you are an American) tin, made as a clock - a desirable novelty at the time, since you not only ate your biscuits, but you had a clock to use or sell.  Would date early 20th century, probably circa 1910-1920s. The tin is quite large, a mantel clock, and decorated in a Chinoiserie pattern of pagodas and bridges. A take on the popular Willow Pattern. The clock in this tin is present, but not working. Tin measures 23 cm high by 40 cm wide and 11 cm deep. Some wear to the paintwork, mainly on the right hand side bottom, and also a shallow dent along here. Overall just normal wear and tear. The clock has little legs and a top carrying ring, so was made to be detached from the tin if desired. No sign of a maker's mark or biscuit advertising though.
