Pair Parian Wall Brackets, Copeland Crystal Palace Art Union Item number: c11923 Date: 1860s Price: NZ$670.00 Pair of fabulous Victorian parian ware wall brackets. Made by Copeland, they have impressed marks at the rear “Ceramic and Crystal Palace Art Union. Copyright reserved, Copeland”. Victorian period, circa 1860s. The decoration is swags of flowers with central putti heads and acanthus scrolls. The edge of the top shelf is gilded. On the rear, they have brass mounts for hanging. One has a very minor shallow chip under the shelf, and what appears to be a watermark on the top of the shelf (left by vase of flowers probably – may clean off). It also has the rear scroll on the left side under the shelf absent. Otherwise they are perfect. Large brackets, measuring 20 cm high by 20.5 cm wide (8 inches by 8.1/8 inches). Very beautiful in their detail. Copeland made busts for the Crystal Palace Art Union, possibly these were made to hold a pair of busts. |
