Chinese Gilded Silver and Kingfisher Feather Brooch Item number: 8835 Date: late 19th to very early 20th century Price: NZ$145.00 Very pretty gilded silver Chinese brooch, with decoration on roundels containing Chinese characters. The turquoise and purple colours that appear to be enamel are actually kingfisher feathers – an ancient technique soemtimes used in Chinese jewellery. The feathers are attached to the metal. There is loss of some of these to the borders of the brooch, and some of the leaves, but overall, this doesn’t detract from the effect. Brooch measures 35 mm wide by 21 mm high. The rear is stamped “Y E, Q S.” |

Japanese Bronze Dish with Gilding Item number: C9104 Date: 19th century Price: NZ$325.00 Nineteenth century bronze dish with woven copper edge — the centre oval bronze plaque has a scene of two men winnowing rice. Their clothes and dishes have gilded highlights, and there are gilded flowers surrounding them. The edge is copper, woven to look like basket weave. Whole measures 21 cm by 24 cm. The basket weave edging has become a little out of true, and there are a few marks on the bronze, but overall condition is good and sound. Large Oriental Metal Vase, Lacquered Item number: C5206 Date: circa 1900–1910 Price: NZ$89.00 A large black vase, with Japanese-style lacquer work in red and gold of a bird flying through wisteria blossom. Vase measures 33 cm high and approx 18 cm wide at its widest point. Under the base, there is the scratched name “Dresdor. France” — Maybe it was bought in France. No chips or cracks, just a few spots in the lacquer, and fading to the brick red design. A very Edwardian looking vase, would look great with large flowers. |
