Beautiful Loetz style glass bowl or small jardiniere. It has an iridescent body with iridescent green glass trails applied. The lip of the bowl is turned over and crimped. No maker’s marks. Measures 12 cm high and 18 cm diameter (4.3/4 inches by 7 inches). There are some very small faults to the green trails where they are very fine – some losses. However, as the design is irregular you really have to examine it closely to see these. Otherwise excellent. Circa 1900.

Early 20th century glass lidded pot, internally painted yellow with black bands and a scene to the lid. The scene is a bit worn – it once would have been possibly a church in a landscape, and the church was done in tiny light–reflecting beads, whereas the scene is black paint. However, most of this is worn away. Still a great little pot though – it measures 58 mm high by 83 mm diameter (2.1/4 inches by 3.1/4 inches). Apart from one minor split in the inside rim (hidden under the lid), it is in very good condition.

Unusual large bottle vase – it is very finely etched with a beautiful leaves and flower motif, but has a thick top end and fine base. Possibly once for display in a Chemist shop. Has previously been used as a large lamp base, but luckily has never been drilled. It has a metal base to stand on, although this is probably a later addition. Whole measures 50 cm high and 23 cm diameter. Excellent condition – it has some bloom inside, but could probably be washed with baking soda or similar.

Little half round posy troughs or flower spills, made by Sowerby Glass in white pressed glass. The frieze is a Walter Crane design from his series “The Baby’s Opera”. Vases each measure 112 mm wide by about 55 mm deep and 45 mm high with funny little ball feet all along the edges. There are faults: all on one trough, where the underneath edges of the back panel are chipped. Glass on both pieces carries the Sowerby peacock head mark underneath. Circa 1887.

First one has Maori motifs printed in bands around the bottom and top, and illustrations of Maori artefacts: a Barracouta (sic) hook, and a stone fish hook. White enamel printed on glass. Tumbler is 11.5 cm high and 6 cm diameter. Excellent condition. Second one is white printed illustration of “Early New Zealand rock drawings: Bird of Prey”. Glass measures 9.5 cm high and 6 cm diameter. Excellent condition. Third one is white printed illustration of “Early New Zealand rock drawings: Mythical Taniwha or dragon”. Glass measures 9.5 cm high and 6 cm diameter. Excellent condition. All mid 20th century.

It has gilding, and painted pink flowers and green wreaths. The clear glass chimney has white and gilt enamel dots on it. The funnel neck is 2.5 cm diameter, and the base is 6 cm diameter; height is 6 cm. A small amount of very minor scuffing to white paint, but really in excellent condition.

White Star Line Milk Glass Plate, SS Oceanic

Milk glass plate with border of fleur de lis and gold eagles — also the White Star line’s flag. Centre is a picture entitled SS Oceanic. Plate measures 18 cm diameter and apart from some paint loss, is in excellent original condition.
The RMS Oceanic depicted here was a liner built for the White Star Line — her maiden voyage was in 1899. Until 1901, she was the largest ship in the world, and her route was from Liverpool or Southampton to New York and back. She cost one million pounds to build. When war broke out in 1914, she was commissioned into the Royal Navy as an armed merchant cruiser. She sailed from Scotland in August 1914 to patrol the waters from Scotland to the Faroes. She ran aground and was wrecked off the island of Foula, Shetland in September 1914.
