Kauri Gum Amber Faceted Beads Item number: C11009 Date: late 19th century Price: NZ$650.00 Beautiful large bead necklace, made in New Zealand kauri gum amber. Kauri gum is the fossilised resin from ancient New Zealand kauri trees, which have been buried in swamps for many thousands of years before being dug up, a practice which began mostly in the mid 19th century with the newly arriving colonists.This is the nicest piece of kauri gum jewellery I have seen. It would date from around late 19th to early 20th century, although of course the gum is many hundreds of thousands of years older. Necklace is a total of 78 cm long. It is a continuos loop (no clasp). The beads are graduated, wire linked, and each bead has many tiny facets. Largest central bead measures 3.1 cm long by 2.2 cm diameter. Excellent original condition. Very rare item. |

Carved Bone Necklace, Long Item number: C11025 Date: late 19th century Price: NZ$135.00 Late 19th or very early 20th century carved bone necklace – lovely aged colour, with graduated beads and a bone barrel screw clasp. Threaded on linen twine. Necklace is total length of 75 cm. Largest central beads are 1.2 cm diameter. The twine has stretched some – this is easy to correct, as the end knots are inside the barrel clasp and can be taken up and reknotted. (If I could tie a knot which didn’t come undone, I would have done it myself.) |

Small Enamel Russian Egg Pendant Item number: C9171 Date: late 20th century Price: NZ$140.00 Little pendant, a miniature copy of a Fabergé egg. Gold-plated Imperial eagle on the front, with an imitation diamond centrally set. The egg is decorated in green enamel. It measures 2.25 cm by 1.5 cm and 1.5 cm thick. There are two small faults in the enamel on the rear side of the pendant, otherwise very good condition. This was bought from the Russian touring exhibition of Fabergé’s work, when it came to Sydney quite some years ago. |
