Vintage Satsuma Brooch Item number: 8795 Date: circa 1920s to 30s Price: NZ$126.00 Vintage Japanese Satsuma brooch, ceramic mounted on brass rear. Chrysanthemum design with cobalt blue edges. Gilded highlights. Hexagonal shape. Measures 48 mm by 52 mm. Has a small lion mark stamped to the rear. Ceramic is in very good condition – typical Satsuma faint crackle glaze to background, with only fault being a loss of gilding to the cobalt border. Rear of the brooch has a bit of a floppy pin, but would be safe when worn with pin through fabric. Beautiful item from the 1920s–1930s. |

Boars Tusk Brooch, inlaid with Shell Item number: C10275 Date: circa 1901–1910 Price: NZ$285.00 Edwardian period (1901–1910) large tusk brooch — this is a New Zealand wild boar’s tusk, and it has been inlaid with New Zealand paua shell, with its beautiful iridescent colours of blue/green/mauve. It has the initial “B” inscribed on the rear. Boar’s tusk jewellery was quite the fashion in the very early 20th century, and since pig hunting in the bush was a popular pastime, the tusks were used as decoration in various ways. Usually, they were mounted in gold, but this one is very unique in being inlaid with shell. This unusual beautiful brooch measures 98 mm wide and 45 mm deep. Excellent condition. |

Royal Commemorative 1938 Brooch, Three Kings in One Year Item number: C10295 Date: 1938 Price: NZ$85.00 Brooch made in what could be copper or plated — shows three coin–like discs, each one with a different king. Each “coin” is ringed in coloured enamel — one in red, one in white and one in blue. Left hand king is George V. Middle king is King George VI with Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother). Right hand king is Edward VIII (the abdicating king). Rear of brooch reads “Souvenir of the Coronation of King George VI and the Historic Year of 1938 during which England had three Kings”.
