Two Early 20th Century Kitchen Tins.

  • NZ$3500

Storage tin for flour, and one for sugar. Large flour tin is 24 cm high by 22.25 cm diameter. Smaller sugar tin is 21.5 cm high and 21 cm diameter. They both have once been green in colour, with the flour and sugar written in darker flowing script. The interiors are tinned. Now, however, on the exterior they are scratched and worn and have a little light surface rust colouring to the lids - dust settled here first - would clean up easily with fine wire wool.  The exteriors could be repainted and look very smart. I bought these in the 1960s from an antique shop, and have used them constantly in my pantry. They actually looked pretty much like they do now when I bought them. Very shabby chic! The tinning on the inside keeps any taints out. Don't fit into the new kitchen, so off they go, hopefully to a new life.  They would date around 1900-1920.
