Aqua glass little octagonal ink bottle.  This type were made to have the top broken off (hence “burst-top”) and when used, discarded. Here in the Bay of Islands there were many found on the sea bed around Russell, where sailors in the 19th century sat on board their vessels perhaps writing home. When the ink ran out, they simply biffed the little bottle out the cabin window into the sea. This one is 5.75 cm high and 4 cm diameter. It has the remains of an old cork inside where someone long ago may have tried a little re-cycling. Uneven glass around the top where is has been broken open, and a little dirty inside, but overall very nice condition.
