Two Late Victorian Etchings by David Law R.S. Item number: 1509 Date: late 19th century Country of origin: United Kingdom Price: NZ$77.00 the pair Two vintage etchings, probably circa late 19th century, titled “On the Thames near Cookham”, showing the river with a punt and small sailing boat at a bend with rustic houses in background, and “St. Michael’s Mount, Cornwall”, which is an interesting scene with storm waves and sailing boats in the bay under the Mount. “An Original Etching by David Law, R.S.” Framed in original matching period frame. Each whole measures 26 cm by 33.5 cm. Very sepia, and have dirt inside the glass, and a little stain creeping in at the bottom (to the mount only). Cookham is in very good condition, but the other has foxing all over. Lovely original framer’s label on the reverse of Cookham “Boots Chemists Ltd. Picture Framing & Art Department” (quite a departure from a Chemist’s usual activities!). St Michael’s Mount has had the backboard replaced. |

Early Victorian Baxter Print, Framed Item number: C8354 Date: 1854 Country of origin: United Kingdom Price: NZ$335.00 “The Day Before Marriage” is the title of this Baxter print, dated at March 1st, 1854. It is from a painting by Fanny Corbaux. The usual Baxter wonderful detail, especially to the clothing, with rich dark blue embroidered velvet blouse. Framed in a Hogarth frame. Whole item measures 56.5 cm by 44.5 cm. The print measures 37 cm by 25.5 cm. Very good condition. |

18th Century Engraving, Dance of Otaheite Item number: C4411 Date: circa 1780–1800 Country of origin: United Kingdom Price: NZ$170.00 An engraving of dancers, Tahiti — dressed in dancing dress: fabric fans and swathes, with coconut shells. Shown performing on a checkerboard floor outside a thatched hut with drummers in the background, and a crowd of onlookers. Palm trees and mountains in far background. The engraving is entitled: “An Exact Representation of a Dance in Otaheite”. The artist and engraver are “Webber” and “Hawkins”. At the top of the engraving is is the publisher’s credit: “London: Published by Alex. Hogg at the Kings Arms, No.16 Paternoster Row.” This would have been from the visit to Otaheite by Captain Wallis in 1767. Mounted loose on protective card. Plate area measures 34.5 cm wide by 22 cm high. In very good condition. Circa 1780–1800. |
